He has been named as the NFL's Defensive player of the year! . He is an awesome player and a good role model for young players as well.

He
plays a clean game, doesn't get in trouble off the field and continues
the fine tradition of Bears football defensive dominance, following the
prowess of Dick Butkus and Mike Singletary. Hall of Fame here comes

I want to be a Bastion of *something*. I just think it's the coolest thing to be referred to as... "Hey, that Troy, he's a real Bastion of *x* ". Maybe I can be a Bastion of Kisses, or Creativity. Ooh I know, I will strive to be referred to as a "Bastion of Obscure Knowledge".

It's one of those great words that sound cheeky, but aren't... like subpoena, pussywillow and uvula. Or I can be a Bastion of Funking and be referred to as "that funkin' Bastion".

Regardless, this is one of my goals for 2006, to become a Bastion.

Monday, January 02, 2006

Happy New Year = "Felix Natividad"?

We went to have a New Yew Year's wingding with Greenfly and Jayde Monkey and at the stroke of midnight as kisses and cheers were shared, I heard the gueros (white dudes) behind the bar - and one in the kitchen yell "Felix Natividad!" and flash a cheesy grin on his latino busboy buddy

The guy laughed shyly, sipped his hard-earned champagne and set the unaware paleface straight, but it was a funny slice of Americana. Norman Rockwell should render a painting of a socially awkward coworker shouting out butchered congratulations at his foreign counterpart. That's one for the 2007 calendar, you can use that idea, Mr. Rockwell. *sarcastic grin* Yes, I am aware that Mr. Rockwell is no longer with us

So to all my friends, hermason latinos and total strangers... Happy New Year, Felix Natividad, Bonne année and so many more... E. Fresh, Biz Markie, Darren "The Human Beat Box" Robinson (see photo)
from the Fat Boys, Michael Winslow from Police Academy and that little
blue guy from Sesame Street who opened his mough and sounded off like a
jackhammer or ambulance siren... rubber lipped inspiration for an only
child who liked to make interesting noises. Still do, as I always say,
life is more interesting with a soundtrack. Go here for beatboxing resources and juicy street cred: www.humanbeatbox.com .

I would like to
teach myself cyclical breathing like Kenny G. and Aborigines so I could
noise-make and not have to stop and breathe. That would be handy for
other things too, but let's leave that out of this post for the time
being *lick*.

Until then, I will continue to embellish my world with sounds, effects and odd noises to punctuate everyday happenings.

Sunday, Dec 25, we Chicago Bears fans received a sweet gift, the NFC North Division title was brought back to Chicago after a long time!

Brett Favre and the Packers made it a good game, but they could not match up with the young prowess of Rex Grossman, Brian Urlacher and the rest of the talented and powerful Monsters of the Midway!

I watched the game with my father in law and he was equally excited but for another reason. He grew up in Chicago Heights, in south Chicago, so this is an extension of the fervor over the Chicago White Sox winning the World Series this year.

Coach Lovie Smith has engineered a great season and Kyle Orton deserves a huge atta-boy for his blood sweat and tears this season. Grossman offers such a different dimension to the offense, it's as if the opponents have to study another team when they try to figure out the offensive schemes now. Grossman's arm is dangerous and his on-field intuition is priceless. With his being out for 3/4 of the season, he hit the ground in stride against the Falcons and gives us fans a reason to be excited about posessions again.

The defense is tops in the NFL and will be hard to match up against. My buddy Quentin's team, the Seattle Seahawks will be probably the last speedbump on the way to the Bowl this year, but we are confident that the Bears will roll right over them and cap off a historical year with another Chicago championship!

Why do people find Howie Mandel so annoying?

Is it the Jheri Curl? The rubber glove on the head? He is a very funny
guy, even though he is not as much in the limelight nowadays, he was a
creative force back in the day. I think he's very cool and funny!

It may be surprising to you that he was the voice of Gizmo in the movie Gremlins, Skeeter on the Muppet Babies, as Dr. Wayne Fiscus on the drama St. Elsewhere and the creative genius behind the short-lived cartoon Bobby's World.

He's very bald now and more edgy, but I will always remember him in the technicolor shirts with the bright smile and curly hair.
Daaaaaa Bears!

Oh
wow, what a fantastic game: Chicago Bears vs San Fransisco 49ers on
November 12, 2005. Krista and I went to watch the game with my mom in
my hometown of Gilroy, CA. When Nathan Vasher made the historic 108 yard missed field goal runback for a touchdown, I was jumping and clapping and scaring mom's poor little finches Sidney & Denzel... named after the actors Sidney Poitier and Denzel Washington, mom's favorite actors. We got the birds for her on Mother's Day 2005.

That game was awesome! On the last series when the 49ers missed the 4th
down and had to surrender the game, I had to restrain myself from
celebrating! I wanted to open the window and shout. It was great to
witness history - with the 108-yard run at the end of the first half. I
think that's what propelled them into the second half with a full head
of steam. I thought it was a fluke until he kept going and there was no
whistle on the play.

I think easily the MVP of the game was Brian Urlacher. I voted for him in the Pro-Bowl Game - go ahead and do the same.
I have his jersey and wear it proudly! He made some crucial plays,
tackles and blocks that added to the tenacity of their defense.
Including at least 4 key blocks during Vasher's history making return.

The Bears are in 1st place
in their division and it's a great time to be a Bears fan. Even when
it's a bad time, I'm still a fan. Thanks fellas for making the game
this weekend a memorable, and record-breaking one.
It's easy to feel like an ant on their way to a picnic, except we don't know whare the picnic is and even if there is any good food. As I browse through the thousands of entries and personalities, I see that some have chosen to render their blog practically unreadable for the sake of a "mad sick layout".

I prefer readability thank you, sir.

And the tricks people will use to get noticed are reminiscent of dayglo hair, piercings and thumping speakers. It's okay for the time being, but will hurt eventually. *wince*

So with that said, I will wrap it up with the words of one of my wife's favorite songs - by Trisha Yearwood... "You say it best when you say nothing at all"

Watch this...

"Exhibit your social status and richness with a classic timepiece"

I get so many of these goofy emails on a daily basis, I wonder if the
cretin
who's sending these out wears a $7.99 Casio black plastic watch they
got at the flea market. Who knows, Casio may even be spelled "Cassio"
on the face, whatever the case I think they need to bootleg those cool
calculator watches from the 80s.

That was status my friends.
When you sauntered onto the playground after Christmas or your birthday
sporting one of those sweethearts, you had instant juice. Hey Troy,
what's 54 divided by 9? I'll tell ya... and I take my pinky nail and
poke out the numbers and give the answer with cocky defiance.

They
were verboten in class, as to be expected, but the enterprising
sneaky-pete would simply strap it to their ankle, sit at the desk and
cross the leg over and voila, your own answer genie!

I
found a watch on the football field that was a golf game - The Casio
GG-9. It had these 2 buttons across the bottom would control the speed
of swing, direction of the shot, par count and all that I needed to win
the wrist master's tournament. I was so good and proud of my treasure
in the grass, left by someone over the weekend who was there to play
soccer (o futbol para mis hermanos latinos). This kid named Robert told
me it was his and my friend John Reed, who lived a few streets over
said I should give it back to him or Robert would kick my butt.

Robert
was the perennial new kid in school shrouded in mystery, he had a
moustache in 5th grade for cryin' out loud. So I begrudgingly handed it
over only to find out later it wasn't his and by this time he'd given it to his older brother and I knew my run as the very-miniature golf champion had come to a crushing end.

So
if these fraud mongers want to get my attention, they are going to have
to dangle a better carrot in front of my face. If I see the subject
line "AUTHENT!C REPL!CA OF THE WATCH Y()U LOS7 IN 1982!!!!!!!" I am so
there!

Robert, if you are reading this, let your brother come kick my butt now...
